Statement on Christian Education

Education is the process by which people acquire knowledge, skills, habits, virtues and attitudes.

Education aims, by the process of teaching and learning, to provide for the nurture and development of the whole man for his proper end. However true knowledge and wisdom have their beginnings in the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7,9-10).

The word Christian means being Christ centred and Christ-like (Acts 11:26).

Christian education originates from God and has three basic aims:

  1. To bring children to a knowledge of Jesus Christ as Saviour in obedience to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) by challenging them to believe in Christ.
  2. To give children direction from God's Word for their studies in all subjects and showing them that Christ's Lordship applies to all areas of education.
  3. To teach children to observe all things that God says in His Word since they are created in His image and to prepare them to stand as Christians in this present world. We aim to do this by laying a solid foundation of skills, knowledge and Christian virtues.

The authority of Christian Education is unchanging: God through His Word (the Bible). It receives its mandate from Scriptures (Deuteronomy 6:5-9) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Christian Education is the responsibility of the parents (Deuteronomy 6:7, Ephesians 6:4) and the Christian School supports and helps them to fulfil that task.

Tyndale Park class roomIn Christian Education, the teaching and acquiring (learning) of knowledge, skills, habits, virtues and attitudes are based on unchanging truths (Thy Word is truth, John 17:17). It aims to do this through diligent teaching (Deuteronomy 6:7), instruction (Proverbs 1:8), training (Proverbs 22:6), nurture and admonition (Ephesians 6:4), to confront a person with his need of salvation and his responsibility to glorify God in all areas of his life (1 Corinthians 10:31) and to present himself completely unto God (Romans 12:1-2). Tyndale Park Christian School assists parents in Christian Education that involves the whole person after salvation, i.e. mentally, physically, spiritually and socially (And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man, Luke 2:52).

All Scripture (Genesis 1:1 - Revelation 22:21) is to be used in every aspect of life and in all subjects, because it is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine (teaching), for reproof (testing, conviction), for correction (restoration, improvement), for instruction (discipline, training, chastening) in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

The Holy Bible, which has been providentially preserved, is the infallible record of God's revelation to man and as such is the final authority in all matters of faith and practise. Tyndale Park Christian School officially uses the Authorised Version translation, commonly known as the KJV, due to curricular resource requirements but also accept any Bible translated from the majority text.

Christian Educators are to be, foremost, born-again believers and practising Christians, not only willing servants of Christ but also able to serve the parents of pupils and those who are in authority over them.
