Father's Day Breakfast 2018

At Tyndale Park Christian School we believe God has great plans for our children. We aim to offer a balanced, personalised, mastery-based learning programme that recognises that God has made every child unique. Our mission statement is “Tyndale Park Christian School assists parents by providing a Christ-centred education that encourages academic excellence and Christian service to the glory of God”. It is an incredible privilege to partner with our parents and the community to raise up the next generation of leaders, to develop the academic excellence and Christian service skills our students will need to make a positive difference in New Zealand and the rest of the world.

Last year was the first year we hosted a Father's Day Breakfast at our school. One of the biggest decisions was trying to find the best possible time to host the event. Since our community lives all over South and East Auckland and battling traffic during the week can be disheartening, we have decided to host the event early on a Saturday morning. It is easier for families to get to school at that time and it leaves families with enough time to also participate in their children's sports programmes. The mothers have also been appreciative of the timing since it leaves enough time for the dads to do important chores around the home! One could say it is a "win-win".

The event was organised and hosted by our senior students (Years 11-13). It is an excellent opportunity for our older students to have an authentic learning context to develop leadership and service skills. They planned the programme, decorations and menu and then went on to work with our teachers on preparing Father's Day messages by our student body, making decorations and decorating the hall, and making and serving the breakfast. The dads were very appreciative of the seniors' efforts and they enjoyed the joyous, celebratory atmosphere of the event. Afterwards, the seniors reflected on what went well, what didn't go that well and how they could improve the event for next year. They certainly enjoyed the opportunity to bless our community and started to understand how it was more blessed to give than to receive.
